How to pick your industry on Easylim — and when a horizontal platform beats niche tools

5 chapters

Nine industries on one page is a lot, and the first reaction is usually wrong: "our business is unique, nothing will fit." In practice 80% of the work in a marketing agency, finance team, school, or factory is the same set of tasks — items with deadlines, approval flows, documents, recurring chores. This page shows how to read our industry hub without the marketing noise, how to pick the right template for your segment, and why in most cases Easylim outperforms a niche PM tool sold as "only for agencies" or "only for finance teams."

How to read the industry hub without getting lost in 9 cards

Each of the nine cards is not a "landing page for SEO" but a working brief: the use cases support actually sees from this industry, the templates we see used most, and the failure modes every second customer in this segment hits.

How to read: open the card closest to your main role, not your company's industry. If you're an HR team inside a fintech, start with HR, not Tech. If you're the marketing team of an education startup, start with Marketing. The Education card is written for school or course admins, not the marketing team around them.

The second card to read is the adjacent one. In finance, the adjacent industries are usually Consulting (reporting, approvals) and HR (KPIs, bonuses). That gives you 80% of the useful ideas in 15 minutes, without reading all nine.

  • Read the card for your role, not your company's industry.
  • First card = main, second = adjacent. The rest is for deep dives.
  • The use cases in cards are real, pulled from 2024-2025 support, not SEO filler.

Which Easylim feature belongs in which industry (and why)

The most common mistake is to turn on every view at once: Kanban, Gantt, calendar, dashboard, docs, forms. That overwhelms a team fast, because 90% of roles only really use 2-3 of those.

Marketing lives in Kanban (card flow matters more than deadlines) and the calendar (content plans, publish dates). Gantt is rarely needed — campaigns are short. Tech / SaaS uses Kanban for engineering, Gantt for roadmap, docs for specs; calendar is secondary.

Finance flips this: the spine is Gantt (month close, audit) and docs (policies, runbooks); Kanban handles incoming requests from bookkeeping. HR = calendar (interviews, reviews) + docs (onboarding, policies); Gantt is overkill. Education = calendar (timetables, deadlines) + docs (curricula, notes); Gantt only for the admin side of large institutions.

  • Most roles really only use 2-3 views, not 6.
  • Marketing = Kanban + calendar. Finance = Gantt + docs. Education = calendar + docs.
  • Don't turn everything on at once. Start with 1-2 views, add after month one.

Team size changes everything — the same PM does not behave the same at 5 and at 100

Industry doesn't pick the tool. Team size does. A 5-person marketing agency and a 100-person marketing department inside a corporation are two different problems: the first optimises for speed, the second for governance and roles.

1-5 people. One project, one Kanban board, minimal custom fields. You can skip templates entirely. Integrations: Slack or Telegram, nothing more. The free plan usually covers it.

5-25. You start needing projects, roles (viewer / editor / admin), custom fields, Google Calendar sync. Paid plan at $5 per seat.

25-100. You need dashboards, dedicated teams, separate workspaces, real automation, SSO. Ideally one person on Easylim admin part-time.

100+. One workspace per department, audit log, SSO/SCIM, custom security policies, dedicated support. That's Enterprise and a different rollout approach.

  • Industry tells you which features. Size tells you which level of control.
  • Up to 25 people — one plan, one workspace. Past that, structure matters more than features.
  • A part-time Easylim admin shows up at roughly 40-50 users.

Templates — the shortest path to not starting from a blank board

Most teams spend their first week in a new PM tool arguing about structure: which fields to add, what to name statuses, which roles to create. That is the worst possible moment to do that work — team motivation is highest, real work in the tool is zero.

A template doesn't solve every problem, but it gives you a starting structure that already works for dozens of teams like yours. A marketing team gets a Kanban with columns Brief → Strategy → Creative → Approval → Live and fields prefilled (channel, budget, campaign). Finance gets a month-close pipeline broken out by day. HR gets a hiring funnel with stages and automated reminders.

What to do after cloning a template: delete what you don't use, don't pile your own stuff on top. Templates are intentionally over-loaded so you don't have to guess what else might be useful. Strip the unused parts and in 2-3 days you have your working version.

  • 60+ templates cover typical processes across 9 industries.
  • Clone in 1 click, then delete. Don't add on top.
  • If a template hasn't become yours in 3 days, pick a different one — don't edit it to perfection.

When Easylim is not the best pick (and when a vertical tool wins)

Easylim is a horizontal platform. We do one thing — work management — well, for 9 industries. That doesn't mean we do it best for every one of them.

If your industry is very narrow with workflows that don't map onto anything else, a vertical tool is the better pick. A law firm with Clio-style workflow (billable hours tied to case files) — use a legal SaaS. A game studio with an asset/scene bug tracker — use Jira or Hansoft. An architecture firm with BIM integration — BIM 360.

Where Easylim wins against vertical tools: when the team has 2+ functions. A marketing agency that builds its own product — vertical agency PM can't handle development. A school with administration, methodists and marketing — three different jobs that are easier in one tool than in three. Almost every company at 20+ people has 2-3 functions, and that's where a horizontal platform is cheaper and simpler. See also the compare page where we show honestly where Easylim is stronger and where it isn't.

  • Very narrow industry with a unique workflow → vertical tool.
  • 2+ functions in one company → a horizontal platform is almost always cheaper.
  • Better one tool covering 90% than three covering 100%.
vertical vs horizontal
Vertical tool
  • · Deep agency-PM features
  • · Locked to one industry
  • · High per-seat price
e.g. agency-only PM
Easylim
Horizontal platform
  • Works across departments
  • One login · one tool
  • Lower TCO at 10+ seats

pick vertical when your industry is exotic

TL;DR — how to pick your industry

  • 1Read the card for your role, not your company's industry.
  • 2Industry tells you which features. Team size tells you which level of control.
  • 3Templates are the fastest start. Delete what you don't need; don't add on top.
  • 4Easylim wins when a team has 2+ functions. Very narrow workflow — pick a vertical tool.
